Holy Cross/UK Great Thomson WINS USA Half-Marathon Title


Former Holy Cross and University of Kentucky great Jacob Thomson won the USA Half-Marathon Championship this morning in Fort Worth, Texas. He ran a time of 1:02:38 winning in the final stretch out kicking the field. Runner-up Leonard Korir and 3rd place finisher Futsum Zienasellassie were both less than one second back of Thomson. The next four finishers were all within the next 14 seconds.

During his high school days at Holy Cross (Class of 2013) in Louisville, Thomson was a 9-time KHSAA State Champion in track and 2-time KHSAA State Champion in Cross Country. He was a 2-time Foot Locker Nationals finalist and represented the United States on the world stage in high school once. He ran at the Great Edinburgh Cross Country Meet for the USA in England. He still holds KHSAA State Records in the 1600m 4:09.99 and 3200m 9:07.17.

In college he was a multi-time national qualifier in XC and track at NC State University and the University of Kentucky. He was a 3-time SEC Champion in track as well. He became the 4th Kentuckian ever to break the 4 minute barrier for the Mile when he ran a 3:57.07 in 2018.
