I'm Back(ish)

Hello again KYtrackXC.com!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! For those of you who are current runners and parents along with newer coaches, my name is Jonathan Grooms. I helped lift KYtrackXC.com off the ground with its start in March 2005. This is back in the early, early days of MileSplit. I ran all facets of the site until January 2016 before I handed the keys off to Chris Hawboldt.

Over the last few years, I have been and am still coaching at Calloway County High School in Murray. I have embraced other opportunities in the track/XC world such as officiating, timing, and meet management.   Two years ago at the 2021 Class AA State Track Meet I showed up just to watch and found myself assigned as one of the pit rakers for the Triple Jump. HUGE MISTAKE that I will never make again. Hardest job at the track no questions asked. Last year, I was able to be one of the lead officials for the Unified events at the Class AA State Meet. To be honest, that one was one of the best experiences I have ever had in a track meet.

A couple months ago I started to think about the possibilities of rejoining KYtrackXC.com in a limited capacity. A few conversations with Chris later and I am back. I am going to be focusing on posting articles highlighting things happening in the world of track and XC in Kentucky.  I will also be showing the full power of what the MileSplit database. That amount of data for Kentucky alone is immense as every meet over the last 18 years has been put into the database. There is so much that can be done and I plan to give you all a full tour of the data for the current season and all the ones of the past going back to the first track meets in 1912.

Chris Hawboldt still oversees this online community, but I am excited to be back to help. If you have any ideas of things you want to see, shoot me an email at kytrackxc@gmail.com
