Top Moments of the 2022 KHSAA State Championships

Strength of Unified Track and Field

In 2015 when the KHSAA introduced Unified events to the state track and field championships, there was some skepticism as to how it would fit into the big picture of a championship meet. That year there were a total of 14 entries across all three classes (with none in Class 2A). In 2022, there were 153 entries at the state championships and Class 2A led the way with 72! You all...this is something that our state should be shouting from the rooftops.

How have we gotten to this point? I will attribute it to the dedication of the coaches, athletes, and administrators at the schools who participate making it a priority for their programs. We have also seen a surge in the number of meets that are offering Unified events throughout the season, with the Eastern Relays leading the way on arguably the biggest national stage that a Kentucky high school meet has to offer.

The educator heart in me is immensely proud of the coaches, teams, athletes, and KHSAA for opening up this opportunity on the grandest stage that our state has to offer. The partnership between our athletes during these events shows truly what our sport is about.
