5th Runners of the Week: Week 3

Girls 5th Runners of the Week

Lainey Banks seals a team podium finish with her late kick

Mia Treinen- duPont Manual

DuPont Manual made their way up to Mason Ohio for the Mason Invitational plotted up against some of the Midwest's top teams. As a team, the Rams finished 3rd thanks in part to a great second half of the race by Mia. The sophomore crossed the line grabbing 73 points while boosting them to a top 3 finish. Kentucky's top girls team will feature a slew of girls vying for a top 7 spot at state and Mia has definitely proved she's a perfect candidate.

Lainey Banks- Woodford County

Just like Daviess County, the Woodford County girls are no strangers to an appearance on the 5th Runners of the Week list. This week, however, it's Lainey Banks. When all was said and done at the Bluegrass Cross Country Invite, the ladies of Woodford County edged Conner by just 1 point securing a spot on the podium! If Banks had run just 1 second slower, she would have finished 29th tying the score with Conner holding the tie break points as they brought 2 in just 3 spots behind her. This is a perfect example of how 5th runners can make or break the team and you should never forget...cross country a team sport!

Emma Bezold- Bishop Brossart

As the top seeded Class A team, the Bishop Brossart girls had an outing at the Mason County Invitational to take on the home team and preseason Class AA 4th ranked Mason County. With the point spread between a win and runners-up just 7 points at the end of the day, it was the defending Class A team champs who took home a hard fought victory. Crossing the line as the 5th finisher was the sophomore Emma Bezold who closed out the score with 25 points which solidified another win for those ladies as they march on through the season.
