What was your most memorable meet and why?
The 2018 State meet was the most memorable for me because our team knew going into it that it was going to be a battle. I remember telling the guys all week that we were ready for it, and sure enough, all seven of us went out and ran great races. Being a senior leader and captain this year just made it even more special, and I'm really proud of all our guys.

Where did you face your biggest competition?
The biggest competition was definitely at state because that was our focus all year and we knew that we would have to bring our best race. Boyle and Boyd County have great programs and had been competing with us all throughout the year, and we knew they were going to do the same at state. Our boys were able to put together a great race though.

Out of all of your high school accomplishments which stands out the most and why?
I think being a three-time state champion stands out the most because it emphasizes the team aspect of the sport and is something that I can share and cherish with my teammates for years to come.

If you could do it all over again what would you change about your running career in high school?
I would honestly say that I wouldn't change anything about my high school running career because I've loved every moment of it. I was able to see my hard work pay off since not being able to crack the varsity squad my freshman year to being senior captain and finishing top ten at state this season. I've been blessed with some great coaches and teammates who've always been there to push me and support me along the way.

What were the most difficult obstacles you had to overcome?
The most difficult obstacle of mine wasn't any physical injury or setback, but a mental one that happened before freshman year. I had been running since second grade, but my love for the sport of running had kind of faded during eighth grade and I wasn't sure about continuing it in high school. However, with some urging from some close friends and family, I gave Lexington Catholic cross country a shot, and I credit the coaches and my teammates for really helping me find that joy for running once again.
What will you miss the most?
I will definitely miss the team aspect and the brotherhood of going on long runs together, pushing each other through tough workouts, and ultimately competing for each other out on the course on Saturdays. I've been teammates with some friends for over a decade now, and I have some great memories with them, but I will surely miss them next year.

Do you have any advice for younger athletes?
My advice might sound cliché, but I just want to stress the importance of hard work and dedication, and where both of those can get you in the sport of running, I know they've definitely had an impact on my career because those who know me would know that I'm not the most naturally gifted runner. What I mean is that I've had the mentality to get better everyday and always push myself to be better, and I think that translated to my high school career in my progression from JV runner freshman year to top ten in the state this season.

What are your post-high school or college plans?
I hope to attend my dream school of Notre Dame next year, but I'm undecided on what I want to study. At whatever college I end up going to I plan on continuing to run, whether that be on a team, club, or individually.

Who would you like to say thank you to?
I definitely want to thank Coach Wiesenhahn, Coach Joe, and Coach Bernie. They have all had a huge impact on my high school running career and I couldn't ask for a better group of coaches during these last four years. My parents have also played a huge role in supporting me, and my dad started the team at my grade school where I first started running. My younger brothers have always been a source of motivation, and I wouldn't be where I am today without them. I want to extend a special thank you to my sister, Michaela, because she has always inspired me in my running career and has had a really special impact on my life.
