The top seven returning times from 2017 came from the state track and field meet which can only mean one thing...I cannot WAIT to see what May 2018 has to offer. Furthermore, if the indoor season is any indication of what we will see outdoor...I cannot WAIT to see what May 2018 has to offer. So far we have two ladies who have gone sub 5:00 in the mile (which is 9 meters longer than the 1600m) compared to last year we had zero go sub 5:00 indoor. Oh and we didn't have any sub 5:00 miles in 2016 or 2015 indoor either. So basically, I CANNOT WAIT TO SEE WHATM MAY 2018 HAS TO OFFER! Coming into the season Breanna Alderton of Owensboro has the top mark from her class AAA state title performance. She is one of the two that have gone sub 5:00 indoor this season after not breaking 5:00 outdoor all season last year. Male's Kaitlyn Lacy, the class AAA cross country state champion, comes in as the second best returning athlete but we have not seen her at all during the indoor season. From there things get a little messy as Alena Sapienza-Wright is next on our returner list, but her teammate Kathleen Simms has bettered her this indoor season. That 1-2 punch could drive duPont Manual to a team title with their depth across the board. The name to keep an eye on is Kailee Perry of Morgan County. She will compete in class A, but she has already ran a 5:06.39 this indoor season in the mile, yet her best outdoor 1600m time was 5:19.71 last season. She was the state cross country champion in 2016 and runner up in 2017 also was runner up in both the 1600m and 800m last outdoor season, so there is potential to win there. Keep an eye out for Kailee.
