In an effort to honor the top track and field performers from Kentucky, KYtrackXC.com will have a weekly set of Athletes of the Week. There will be Middle School, High School, and College awardees. FormerKentuckyHigh School Track and Field athletes currently running in college are eligible for the College award, even if he or she attends a school out-of-state.
Kendall, a senior at OwensboroHigh School won the Shot Put and Discus at the Tell City Invitational on Saturday.Her throws of 41-07.25 and 137-08 are both career best.Kendall is the two-time defending Class AAA Kentucky State Champion in both events and has signed to continue her career at the University of Louisville.
Whittier, a senior at ChristianCountyHigh School in Hopkinsville won the High Jump Saturday at the Hopkinsville Invitational with a state-leading and career best leap of 6-08.He also finished second in the 300m Hurdles in 41.04 seconds.
O’Bryan, a seventh grader at DaviessCountyMiddle School won the 1600m and 3200m Runs Saturday at the Great Gator Middle School Invitational.Her winning time of 5:40.40 and 12:17.50 currently lead the Kentucky Middle School State Rankings in both categories.
Beckerson, an eighth grader at Burgin won the 800m and 1600m Runs at the Mercer County MS Invitatonal on Monday.He ran a career best middle school time of 4:57.94 in the 1600m Run.This is after running a best time 4:56.12 at the All “A” Classic on Saturday.
Smith, a 2008 FultonCounty graduate won the Long Jump and Triple Jump at the Lenny Lyles/Clark Wood Invitational held at the University of Louisville on Saturday.She set new career best in both events jumping 19-11.50 and 41-00.25.Both of those performances rank second All-time at WesternKentuckyUniversity.
