Kaitlyn Lacy's Interview after a runner up performance at 2016 State

At the beginning of the season, Kaitlyn Lacy was a shell of the her former self. As she ran at Palatine, her coach revealed she had been recovering from an injury. As the season unfolded, she slowly but surely turned into the Kaitlyn Lacy that we have come accustomed to over the last 4 years. The Region 3 meet was a precursor to the state meet as the top 3 runners will likely be the top 3 on Saturday. I see it unfolding a little differently, as Lacy has been runner up enough and will finally get her day in the limelight. I see Lacy, Simms and Sapienza-Wright battling the first two miles or so and then Lacy and Simms separating themselves. If Lacy allows Simms and Sapienza-Wright to hang together and work as a team, it will be tough sledding. However, if she can get some separation, she can use that track speed as the 3200m state champ and 1600m state runner up to take the win. Breanna Alderton of Owensboro has been quietly winning virtually every meet she has run this season. Lastly, I like the fight in Jenna Strange from Tates Creek. She will have fresh legs with soccer season being over and is ready for a great race. She placed 5th past year and wants even more.
