Jordan White Named Southern Conference Athlete of the Week

SPARTANBURG, S.C. - ETSU's Matt Moore and VMI's Jordan White have been tabbed the Southern Conference Indoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week on the men's side, while Chattanooga's Teghan Henderson and Samford's Tatiana Taylor took the honors on the women's side, the league office announced Wednesday. Selections were made by a group of the league's track and field coaches and included competition held Feb. 3-9.

Moore, a junior for the Bucs, claimed the men's track recognition after clocking a SoCon-best time of 6.77 seconds in the semifinals of the 60-meter dash on Friday at the Buccaneer Invitational. The time was also a personal best for the Oak Ridge, Tenn., native. Moore went on to win the event on Saturday with a 6.81-second performance in the finals.

White, a native of Owensboro, Ky., earned men's field honors with strong showings in the shot put and weight throw for VMI at the Youngstown State National Invite. He notched a personal-best 18.71-meter toss in the weight throw on the first day of competition, a mark that ranks second in the SoCon and was good for a third-place finish at the meet. White added a 16.28-meter toss in the shot put, which also ranks second in the league.

UTC's Henderson snagged track athlete honors on the women's side by sneaking under the 5-minute mark in the mile run at the Middle Tennessee State Invitational on Saturday. Her time of 4:59.32 earned her a second-place finish at the meet and is currently tops in the conference by more than four seconds.

Samford's Taylor garnered the women's field award following a 17.53-meter weight throw and a 12.45-meter toss in the shot put on Sunday at the South Alabama Jaguar Invitational. Her weight-throw distance broke the Bulldogs' indoor record and ranks first in the conference this season, while her shot-put mark is third-best in the league to this point.
