Two Sacred Heart Academy seniors have signed to run in college next year. Maggie Allen signed with Indiana University and Samantha Simms with the University of Louisville. Both have been considered as top runners in Kentucky since their freshmen years of high school.
Allen, the two-time defending Class AAA Kentucky State Champion in the 800m and 1600m Runs has a PR of 2:13.68/4:57.93 for the 800m/One Mile Run which ranks her #3 and #5 All-Time in Kentucky history. She set a PR of 17:38.63 on the track last March to win the KYtrackXC.com 5K Showdown. Injuries caused her to miss most of this cross country season, but she did run an 18:13.70 to win the Brown County Invitational. She will join former Butler runner Tretez Kinnaird and Daviess County runner Amelia Reynolds at Indiana University.
Simms, the 2014 Class AAA Runner-Up in the 1600m Run at the Kentucky State Championship will stay home to become a Cardinal. Last week she finished 11th overall at the Kentucky State Cross Country Championship to help lead her team to the Class AAA Kentucky State Championship. She has a PR of 5:05.87 for the One Mile Run as well as a PR of 18:03.80 for 5000 meters. Both of her PRs in the 1600/3200m are Top 50 All-Time in Kentucky history. She joins numerous former Kentucky runners at the University of Louisville including former rival, Bailey Davis of Assumption.
