BRENTWOOD, Tenn. – Eastern Kentucky University junior Amos Kosgey and senior Ann Eason have been named the Ohio Valley Conference Male and Female Cross Country Runners of the Week, the league office announced on Tuesday.
It is the second time this season the duo has swept the OVC’s weekly honors.
Kosgey finished sixth out of 200 competitors in the loaded Blue Race of the Notre Dame Invitational on Friday in South Bend, covering the five-mile course in a time of 23:27.4. The native of Eldoret, Kenya led the No. 23 EKU men’s team to a win over five-nationally-ranked teams at the meet, four of which were ranked ahead of the Colonels.
Eason placed 12th out of 300 runners in the Gold Race of the Greater Louisville Classic on Saturday morning at E.P. ‘Tom’ Sawyer State Park in Louisville. The Lexington native led the EKU women to a sixth-place finish out of 33 teams.The Colonels defeated the likes of Clemson, Georgia, Louisville and Western Kentucky, as well as Ohio Valley Conference foes Eastern Illinois, Southeast Missouri and Morehead State.
The EKU cross country teams will split again in two weeks, as the men’s team heads to the Wisconsin adidas Invitational on Friday, Oct. 17, and the women’s team competes at the NCAA Pre-Nationals on Saturday, Oct. 18.
