WKU Women Enter Top 25 For 1st Time in School History

WKU WOMEN’S TRACK AND FIELD ENTERS TOP 25 FOR FIRST TIME IN PROGRAM HISTORY

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – The WKU women’s track and field team has entered the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCA) Top 25 for the first time in program history, coming in at No. 22 in this week’s national rankings with 82.07 points.

The Lady Toppers currently sport six marks that rank Top 30 in the NCAA, including Jessica Ramsey’s shot put clip of 57’4.75 (17.49m) that ranks third nationally and France Makabu and Ana Camargo’s triple jump leap of 43’3 (13.18m) which ranks fifth in the nation.

“It’s quite an honor to be recognized as one of the best programs in NCAA,” said head coach Erik Jenkins. “I’m happy for our staff, team, administration and our alumni. We’ve worked very hard to produce a product worthy of this ranking.”

“For us to break into Top 25 in a sport where you compete in 21 events is a tremendous accomplishment. We’re not just a niche program. We have sprinters, distance runners, jumpers and throwers posting national marks across the board. We want to be successful in conference and on a national level, that’s always been our goal and right now we are there. This is huge for us.”

Ramsey currently ranks Top 25 in the shot put and discus after shattering school records in both events this season. Her shot put clip of 57’4.75 ranks third nationally while her discus throw of 176’8 at last weekend’s Arkansas State Open propelled her to 22ndnationally. Teammate Lexia Robinson also ranks 29th in the discus at 173’9.

Freshman sprinter Carrol Hardy ranks 23rd in the NCAA in the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.41 seconds, which she clocked at the Hilltopper Relays on April 12 to set a school record.

The Lady Toppers are finished with their regular season slate and are gearing up for the Sun Belt Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships, hosted by Texas State in San Marcos May 8-10. For more information on WKU Track and Field, visit WKUSports.com.
