COLUMBIA, Ky. – Chanel Roberts earned her second consecutive Mid-South Conference Field Athlete of the Week honor, conference officials announced on Tuesday.
Roberts secured her Field Athlete of the Week honor with her second straight shot put victory following her toss of 40 feet and 3/4 inches (12.21m) at the Lindsey Wilson Invitational on Saturday, March 29. Roberts toss won by nearly six feet and was two feet shy of her program record set last week at the Emory (Ga.) University Invitational.
Roberts finished second in the high jump at the Lindsey Wilson Invitational. Roberts jumped 4-11 3/4 feet (1.52) to finish in a tie for second place.
Roberts scored 17 points for the Blue Raiders – who finished third in the invitational.
COLUMBIA, Ky. -- Austin Childress is the Mid-South Conference Track Athlete of the Week, conference officials announced on Monday.
The weekly award is the first of the season and career for Childress.
The Madisonville, Ky., freshman won the 800-meter run and was part of a first place 4x400-meter relay team at a rainy Lindsey Wilson Invitational on Saturday to earn the conference's track honor.
Childress captured the 800 by more than a second after crossing the finish line with a time of two minutes and 3.45 seconds. The win was worth 10 points towards the Blue Raiders overall winning score of 104 points.
He then helped the 4x400 relay team to a win with a time of 3:32.62 -- nearly nine seconds ahead of the second-place team.
The next track & field weekly awards are scheduled to be announced on Tuesday, April 8.
