Jacob Korir, senior at Eastern Kentucky University, finished seventh at the NCAA Division I National Championships held today, November 20, in Terra Haute, Indiana. The lone runner for the Colonels ran a 31:03.5 for the 10,000-meter race, finishing seventeen seconds behind winner Josh Rohatinsky of Brigham Young University. Korir also won the NCAA Southeast Regional held last week at Tom Sawyer Park in Louisville.
The University of Louisville men qualified as a team for the NCAA Division I Championships and finished 15th in the final standings. The team was led by sophomore Corey Thorne's sixty-second place finish in 32:10. Kentucky high school products Michael Eaton (Greenwood, 139th, 32:57.9) and Scott McClain (St. Xavier, 222nd, 34:09.9) helped represent the Cardinals at Nationals. Eaton battled back from injuries to finish fourth on the team. Matt Smith (Oldham County) has also run on the University of Louisville's Varsity squad this season. The only female runner from a Kentucky college was Louisville freshman Tarah McKay at 106th place, running a 22:11.6 for the 6,000 meter course.
