2006 KYtrackXC.com Outdoor Track Awards

The 2nd Annual KYtrackXC.com Track Awards are based on the performances from the entire season, including but not limited to Regionals and State and are not divided by class. I would like to congratulate all the athletes who competed in track this past season and recognize the top performers in three categories: Sprinters, Distance, and Field Events. Meet this year's winners:

Girls Sprinter of the Year

Chelsea Brown (Butler) – Though Chelsea is only a freshman, she made a significant contribution to her team at State and throughout the entire season. Going into the State Meet, she had the best time overall in the state in four events (100, 200, 300H, 400.) She pulled off the ultimate quartet by winning the same four events in the 2006 Class AAA State Meet:

Girls Distance Runner of the Year

Kortni Dukes (Scott) – Winning this award for the 2nd year, Kortni capped off her senior year with repeat titles in the 1600m & 3200m at the 2006 Class AAA State Meet. She ran the fastest times overall in the state in both of these events at the Anderson Invitational in Ohio. She has accepted an athletic scholarship to the University of Louisville this fall.

Girls Field Event Athlete of the Year

Pam Bell (Paducah Tilghman)- Pam capped off her senior year with a state title in the Shot Put were she set the Class AA State Record with a throw of 42-10. She had the best overall throw in the discus and shot put during this track season. She finishes her high school career with six career state titles and two state records. She is also a standout basketball player, who has accepted a basketball scholarship to Murray State University.

Boys Sprinter of the Year

Agyei Williams (Trinity) - This junior won the Class AAA 100m High Hurdles and 300m Intermediate Hurdles at the 2006 State Track Meet. These victories helped lead Agyei's team, Trinity, to their second consecutive team title. He posted the best times out of all classes in both of these events at the state meet and throughout the entire season.

Boys Distance Runner of the Year

Ron Duncan (Fleming County) – Ron, a senior, pulled off the distance trifecta winning the Class AA 800m, 1600m, and 3200m state titles at the 2006 State Track Meet. He ran his personal best in the 1600m and 800m at the state meet. Based on time for results for the whole season, he was top five in the 1600m & 3200m and 8th in the 800m. He finishes his high school career with five state individual championships.

Boys Field Event Athlete of the Year

Chrys Jones (Harrodsburg) – This junior won the Class A Long Jump and Triple Jump at the 2006 State Track Meet. Chrys broke the overall State Record with his winning jump of 48-06.00. He had the best Triple Jump of the season in the state and the second best Long Jump throughout the season. After the State Meet he won the Triple Jump at the Golden West Invitational in Folsom, California.
