Nike Indoor Nationals has been kind to the entries from Kentucky already and we will keep you updated as best we can all weekend. Today, in the freshman boys mile run, Connor Sheryak (St. Xavier) and Zac Garrard (Owensboro) placed 6th and 8th overall in times of 4:35.75 and 4:39.68 respectively. Those times are personal best for both athletes and are a nice showing by some of the best young talent in Kentucky.
Anna Bostrom (Woodford County) competed in the 5k and did some serious damage. Heading in, Bostrom was just hoping to break 18 minutes, but looking at pace and her performance last weekend, we wondered if she might really have a breakout race in the making. Bostrom took 4th overall, earning All-American honors, in a time of 17:29.70. Her time is even more impressive when you compare it to the performance by Mary Grace Pelligrini (DuPont Manual) who placed 2nd in 2008 in a time of 17:48.75. Anna, who signed with the University of Kentucky earlier this year, has dealt with plenty of injuries and frustrations over the years and we are very excited for her after this impressive performance. Congratulations!
