Vikings 3200 Relay Team Places Second at UK Invitational

Spring Valley\'s 3200 meter relay team placed second at the University of Kentucky High School Invitational Saturday with a meet record of 8:05.23. The Vikings also set a dyestat indoor ranking standard in the process. Indiana\'s Carmel High School broke the eight-minute barrier with a 7:57.11, to seal the win.

Spring Valley's boy's 3200-meter relay squad of Brian Raymond, Reid Wilson, Darian Hodges, and Robert Thompson placed first at the Eastern Challenge on Jan. 24 at the Eddie Smith Field House on the campus of North Carolina in Chapel Hill. The four-person relay captured the win over North Carolina's Southeast Raleigh High School with a final time of 8:26.43 to Raleigh's 8:26.58. Ridgeview High School's team of Thurman Trapp, Richard Williams, Aubrey Darnell, and Matt Strick placed eight with a time of 9:08.47 at the Eastern Challenge. Spring Valley captured the 4A 3200-relay title at the State Track and Field Championships on May 10 with a time of 8:03.22. Ridgeview was the runner-up at the state championships.

Raymond and Wilson placed fifth and eighth, respectively in the mile run. Raymond, a senior at Spring Valley crossed the line in 4:28.47 and Wilson crossed the line in 4:30.52 to close out the mile field. The SCTCCCA honored Raymond as Outstanding Male Cross-Country Athlete of the Year on Jan. 17 at the association\'s winter meeting.

Quick Striders Track Club also traveled to the meet. The Quick Striders placed fourth in the 1600-meter relay with a 3:26.80, a mark good for dyestat.com rankings list.

Mauricus Brown, a sophomore at Westside represented the Quick Striders in the 800-meters with a time of 2:11.93. Darrian Hodges, a junior at Spring Valley ran a 52.28 in the 400-meter event. Holly Hardy, ran a 1:04.56 400 time for the Quick Striders.

Brandon Ellis and Dennis Martin represented the Quick Striders in the boy\'s 200 with times of 22.31 and 23.02. Ellis\' time will place him in dyestat.com\'s national rankings. Following Martin\'s performance in the 200, the junior finished second in the 60-meter hurdles with a dyestat.com ranking time of 7.97. Both Ellis and Martin run with Mauricius Brown at Westside. Julius Jiles-Tindell, a senior from Kansas City, KS ran a 7.91 time to finish first. Brandon Brown also competed for the Quick Striders in the 60 hurdles. Brown, who also set a dyestat.com national ranking standard ran a 8.04. Brandon Brown rounded out the top three in the long jump with a 22-05.75 best leap.

In the women\'s 60-meter hurdles Polly Hardy ran a 8.95 to finish second overall for the Quick Striders with a dyestat.com ranking standard. Hardy runs for Westside High School.

The outdoor track and field season opens on March 6 with the 10th Annual Relays, the Greenville-Spartanburg Relays and the Optimist Relays.
