Snapp and Dooley Repeat in Class A

One could argue the weather Saturday created the perfect day for the State Cross Country Meet and probably be correct.  With this great weather, the course was blazing as the times were fast, fast, fast!!!!  Congratulations to all the teams and runners who participated in the final day of the Kentucky High School Cross Country 2007 Season.

A Girls

At the Class A Region 4 Championship, Danville 8th grader Kaitlin Snapp beat Owen County 9th grader Danielle Hoop by four seconds.  This close battle set up the showdown at the State Meet.  Snapp, the 2006 Individual State Champion, and Hoop ran side-by-side until the last mile when Snapp pulled away for good, crossing the line in a best time of 18:58.  Hoop finished second with a 19:08.

Coming into the race, everyone knew the team race would be tight between St. Henry, Walton-Verona, Villa Madonna, and Trimble County.  In the end, St. Henry was able to fend off Walton-Verona to reclaim the Class A Girls Team Title that Verona won last year.

A Boys

The showdown for the Class A boys title has been heating up all year long as defending champion, Gordy Dooley, senior at St. Henry, and #2 ranked James Maglasang, a St. Mary sophomore, had yet to face-off on the course.  Dooley led off with a 5:02 mile, already establishing a safe distance in front of Maglasang and the rest of the pack.   Dooley ran away from there, winning with a 15:50.  Maglasang finished second with a 16:08.

The boys of St. Henry won their sixth straight team title over Christian Academy and Bishop Brossart. dooley
