Blast from the Past - 2005 Pre-Season Rankings
The KYtrackXC.com Pre-Season State Team Rankings will be out tonight! Before they come out let's take a moment to outline the schedule for the season and a little on how they are done.
The KYtrackXC.com State Rankings consist of a list of Top 10 teams and Top 20 individuals per KHSAA Class (A,AA,AAA.) The Pre-Season set that will come out tonight will not have a list of individuals, just teams. (Working on a Runners to Watch List for Thursday)
All rankings are subjective (not based on time.) They are based on looking through results, comparing how teams did against one another and course analysis among other things. Looking for missing runners from teams is another big part of the process. If a team that usually wins in an area suddenly finishes 3rd, they might be missing a key runner at #3 for example. The process takes quite a bit of time and is taken very seriously. Competition in the races is huge.
The KYtrackXC.com XC Rankings will come out every two weeks during the season. Taking that into account, the individual rankings are done with a couple basic rules. #1 Runners that disappear mid-season can and will drop out of the rankings. If a team runs two races in a row and a runner is not in there, the athlete's status will be checked on. If you are a head coach, do not be surprised to get a an email asking questions about your team or athlete. #2 After the season has been established, a individual runner can stay in the Top 20 even after an off race. Once an athlete has proved themselves with several quality races, it is unreasonable to drop them out just for one bad race. Stuff Happens, that is part of life!!!
Rankings Schedule
August 20th - Pre-Season Top 10 Teams
September 8th - Season Set #1
September 22nd - Season Set #2
October 6th - Season Set #3
October 20th - Season Set #4
In the meantime between the two weeks, the automated rankings (using fastest time, average times) help quickly breakdown the competition for all of you. Especially that average time for the season virtual link.
