Former John Hardin Runner Katie Lever Finished 2nd in the Sun Belt 3K

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The WKU women’s track and field team leads the Sun Belt Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships by 24 points after the first day of competition, which was headlined by the dominance of the Lady Topper throwers and success of the sprinters.

Sophomore distance runners Katie Lever and Lindsey Hinken combined for 12 points in the 3,000-meter run, with Lever earning All-Sun Belt Conference honors in her runner-up time of 9:42.37. Hinken finished fifth in 9:48.23.

The Hilltoppers scored 20 points and sit in sixth place after day one, but advanced four sprinters to the 60 and 200-meter dash finals, three to the 400-meter dash finals and another trio to the 800-meter run finals.

WKU’s distance medley relay consisting of Aaron Stevens, Chris Chamness, Kamohelo Mangojeane and David Mokone emerged victorious in the day’s last event, edging out UT Arlington in 10:06.11 for the 10 points.

Bailey clocked a 47.43 in the 400-meter dash prelims to finish first and was followed by senior Chris Chamness’ runner-up finish. Bailey and Chamness enter tomorrow’s 400-meter dash finals with fellow senior Marcus Winstead.
