Former KY Stars Emily Frith & Courtney McIntyre Named GLVC Athletes of the Week

INDIANAPOLIS – Bellarmine University junior distance specialist Emily Frith and sophomore thrower Courtney McIntyre have been named the Great Lakes Valley Conference Women's Indoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week, respectively, it was announced on Wednesday.

Frith, who was the GLVC Cross Country Runner of the Year this past fall, got her 2014 indoor season off to a good start by clocking a 9 minutes, 57.07 seconds in the 3,000 meter run at last weekend's University of Kentucky Invitational.  The time met NCAA provisional standards and is both second in the conference and the 10th-best recorded mark at the Division II level this year.

The Crab Orchard, Ky., native, who was named the GLVC Outdoor Track Athlete of the Year on April 24, 2013, earns her first career indoor accolade.  She is the first track standout to represent the Knights as the league's honoree since Angela Musk was named GLVC Indoor Track Athlete of the Week on Feb. 1, 2012.

McIntyre threw the farthest distance recorded so far this year by a GLVC competitor when she launched a 13.5-meter heave at the UK meet, which was also an NCAA provisional mark.  The throw also broke her own school record by more than a meter and currently stands as the 18th-best mark in the country this season.

The Louisville, Ky., native scores her first career indoor honor and is the first Knight to win GLVC Indoor Field Athlete of the Week since Nora Bowe on Feb. 20, 2013.
