The 11th Annual Junior Colonels Race Series is back!!!
There will be 2 races that are held as a part of the Junior Colonels series; Tuesday, September 8th and Monday, September 28th. The District Championship Race will occur on 9/28!
The elementary races are open to all Henderson County elementary schools (including Holy Name School). The middle school races are open to all Henderson County middle schools (including Holy Name School). We will have an open race that is open to all local elementary students (grades K-5) that are not running as a part of their school's team. At the conclusion of the open race, there will be a small race for younger kids who are not yet in elementary school.
RACE LOCATION:
The races will be held on the South Middle School home course located at the old Henderson Municipal Golf Course on 1801 Elm Street in downtown Henderson. We ask that all those in attendance please park in the Atkinson Medical Building parking lot and enter the meet from there. THERE WILL BE NO PARKING ON ELM STREET!! Any parking spaces by the Clubhouse should be left for handicapped, elderly, or anyone needing easy accessibility.
RACE/ADMISSION FEES:
Race entry is FREE to enter. There will be NO admission fee for anyone coming to watch the event.
RACE INFO:
Middle School: the middle school race will be ran as a 4k (2 1/2 miles). Those running in the middle school race should be in grades 6-8. All athletes should be entered into MileSplit under their school and registered into the meet.
Elementary School: the elementary school race will be ran as a 2k (1 1/4 miles). Those running in the elementary school race should be in grades 5 and under. All athletes should be entered into MileSplit under their school and registered into the meet.
Open Race: the open race will be ran as a 1k (just over 1/2 a mile). Those running the 1k should be in elementary school and not running as a part of their elementary school. There is no registration required for those running in the open race. This race will not be timed, however, we will be giving out ribbons to the top 10 boys and the top 10 girls.
Tiny Tot Trot: there will be a small run ( a small section of the finishing area) for those who are not yet enrolled in elementary school.
Race Day Info:
On race day, those running in the middle school or elementary school races should arrive early and check with their coach to get their race numbers. Each runner will have a number that is assigned to them prior to race day. Coaches, you will receive your athletes numbers from Coach Katie Johnson prior to. Please ensure that each athlete has the correct number that has been assigned to them to ensure accuracy of the results.
* RUNNERS CAN ONLY COMPETE IN ONE RACE* If you have a runner that competes in the middle school or elementary school race, they cannot compete in the open race. If you have a runner that participates in the middle school race, they cannot participate in the elementary school race.
Race Schedule:
5:00pm: Middle School 4k. The boys race and the girls race will be ran together.
5:30pm: Elementary School Girls 2k.
5:55pm: Elementary School Boys 2k.
6:15pm: Open Run 1k. The boys and the girls will run together.
Open Run 1k. The boys and the girls will run together.
as soon as the open race is complete we will the Tiny Tot Trot
Awards: For the race on 9/8 the top 10 boys and the top 10 girls will receive an award. For the race on 9/28, elementary schools and middle schools will compete for the title of Junior Colonel District Champions! During this meet, a trophy will be awarded to the top middle school team and to the top 3 elementary teams.
At the conclusion of finalizing results from the meet on 9/23, we will name Henderson All-County teams. The top 5 Henderson County middle school boys and girls and the top 5 Henderson elementary boys and girls will be honored as First Team All-County. The next 5 elementary boys and the next 5 elementary girls will be honored as Second Team All-County. These determinations will be made based on each person's best race time of the series (Race #1 and Race #2). Plaques will be awarded to all First and Second All-County Team Recipients.
