THESE RACES ARE OPEN TO HENDERSON COUNTY TEAMS ONLY

9TH Annual Junior Colonels Race Series: RACE #2 - JUNIOR COLONELS DISTRICT CHAMPIONSHIP, 9/25/24

This is the second race in the 2024 Junior Colonels Cross-country Series and serves as the District Championship Race for local teams.  These races are open to local elementary and middle school cross-country teams. 

Also, local students in grades K - 5 that are not attached to an elementary cross-country team are invited to race in the approx. 1K OPEN RACE - no registration required for the Open Race - just show up & run!



RACE LOCATION:

Races this year will be held at our home course, "The BEAST" (the old Henderson municipal golf course) on Elm Street in downtown Henderson, Ky.

RACE/ADMISSION FEES:

There are no team entry fees.

We ask for a $3 donation upon entry.  This money will be utlized to support our annual Junior Colonels cross-country series.

RACES OFFERED:

The Middle School Team race (8th grade and under) will be a 4K (approx. 2 1/2 miles).

The Elementary Team races (5th grade and under) will be a 2K (approx. 1 1/4 miles).

The Open Race for unattached elementary runners, grades 1 -5 (those not on an elementary school team) will be approximately 1K (a little over 1/2 mile). No registration is required for the Open Race - just show up and run! The Open Race will NOT be timed but top 10 boys and top 10 girls will be awarded ribbons. For this race boys and girls will run together.

RACE REGISTRATION:

Elementary and middle school teams will need to register their teams using milesplit.  Bibs with race numbers will be in the coaches packet to be picked up on race day.  Please check bib numbers to be sure you have the right number attached to the right person.

** No registration is required for the OPEN RACE. Individuals can just show up and run.**

***Runners can only compete in ONE race, i.e., a participant that runs in the open race may NOT run in a team race - or a particapant that runs in a team race cannot run in the open race or in another team race.  A participant that runs in the elementary race, cannot run in the middle school race and vice versa***

DEADLINE FOR ENTRY IN THIS RACE IS THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 19TH AT 6:00 P.M. CENTRAL TIME.

RACE SCHEDULE:

Races will be on a ROLLING START - this means that each race will start as soon as possible after the prior race is over. If we can move quicker than the schedule predicts - we will - but sometimes, it takes longer than expected.  So, races could start LATER than scheduled (i.e., due to runners in the previous race not having finished yet, technical difficulties, etc.) or they could potentially go EARLIER than scheduled!  These start times are just estimates:

5:00 Mixed Middle School 4K Race

5:30 Elementary Girls Team 2K Race

5:55 Elementary Boys Team 2K Race

6:15 Open Mixed (boys and girls together)1K race

We will also offer a FUN RUN - a very short "dash" for little bitties at the conclusion of the meet.

AWARDS:

For all races on both dates, the top 10 boys and top 10 girls in each division will receive awards.

In this race - the final race of the series - on 9/25, local elementary and middle school teams will be competing for the title of 2024 Junior Colonel District Champions!

For the TEAM races:  Trophies will be awarded to the top middle school team and the top 3 elementary teams.  Individual winners and runner-ups will be awarded trophies, while 3rd - 10th place finishers will be awarded medals.

For the OPEN race:  Top 10 girls and top 10 boys will be awarded ribbons in the finish line chute as they come through.

This year we will again name Henderson All-County teams! The top FIVE Henderson County middle school boys and girls and the top FIVE Henderson elementary boys and girls will be honored as First Team All-County. We will also honor the next FIVE elementary boys and girls as Second Team All-County. All County teams will be determined based on each person's best individual race time of the series. Plaques will be awarded to all First and Second All-County Team Recipients.
