Daviess County Middle School is excited to host our first DCMS 4k Relay. Our competition is scheduled for Tuesday evening,

August 27, 2024 at the beautiful Adrian DeCaussin Cross Country Course in Yellow Creek Park near Owensboro, Kentucky.

This meet is designed to be a fun way to help initiate the Fall cross country season before getting into the typical 3k races.

Coaches will enter paired runners (unlimited pairs.) The first runner of each pair will run our outer loop (2k) and then tap their partners hand

(in the designated exchange zone) near the start/finish. The second runner will run the same course to the finish line.

The top 3 pairs for each school will be added together to determine team places. Example: if your first 3 pairs finish 2 nd , 4 th ,

and 7th then your team score is 13 points. Low score wins as in a typical meet. For an extra runner (not paired) see the

instructions below.

 Instructions for 4k Relay

1. Coaches are responsible to make sure each of their athletes complete the proper course.

2. The first runner of each pair must physically tag the second runners hand within the exchange zone.

3. Only the second runner in each pair will need a competitor number. (Beginning with the 6 th pair for each

school they will be displaced from scoring against other teams, however they will not be displaced for

individual awards.) If you have one extra runner with no relay partner, he or she must run the first leg

and finish at the relay exchange line. The coach is responsible for getting that runners time.

Use the supplied permanent markers to write assigned competitor numbers the so that the bottom of the

number is toward the knuckles and the top of the number is closest to the wrist we do not want

confusion for our helpers reading the numbers at the end of the chute --- write neatly.

4. Please be courteous and let our scorers do their job without interference.

5. Coaches and spectators must stay out of the exchange zone and finish chute of the course

-behind the flagged off area. Otherwise, the course is open.

6. Please use trash bags and pick up your area before you leave

7. Keep your athletes hydrated.
