Meet Information
The Jefferson County Public School High School Championships will be held at Tom Sawyer Park on Wednesday, October 14th 2020. This promises to be a competitive meet and a great prep for Regionals and State. We would love to see all JCPS schools represented!
Please sign up your teams on kytrackxc.com and bring your fees on meet day ($50 per team - $100 for girls and boys). The good news is that KHSAA rules will allow us to have up to 100 runners in a wave, but we will still need to abide by the JCPS limitation of only eight total teams per division. After this weekend, I will look at the eight best team scores on kytrackxc.comhttps://ky.milesplit.com/meets/393739-jcps-championships/info#.X33Kvo7Yq3Aand seed the top eight girls and boys teams. I will send that out on Sunday so you know whether your kids will run earlier in waves 1-6 or later in waves 7-8 (see schedule below). We will use chip timing in the bibs so it is essential that your runners run in the correct wave.
3:30 - Wave 1 of Varsity Boys - This will feature the top 10 runners for the top 8 JCPS teams - 100 total
3:32 - Wave 2 of JV Boys A - This will feature the 11-20 runners for the top 8 JCPS teams - 100 total
3:35 - Wave 3 of JV Boys B - This will feature the rest of the JV runners for the top 8 JCPS teams (if necessary)
Clean and Egress
4:30 - Wave 4 of Varsity Girls - This will feature the top 10 runners for the top 7 JCPS teams - 100 total
4:32 - Wave 5 of JV Girls A - This will feature the top 11-20 runners for the top 7 JCPS teams - 100 total
4:35 - Wave 6 of JV Girls B - This will feature therest of the JV runners for the top 7 JCPS teams (if necessary)Clean and Egress
5:30 - Wave 7 of Varsity Boys B - This will feature all members of JCPS teams ranked 9 and up - 100 total
5:32 - Wave 8 of Varsity Girls B -This will feature all members of JCPS teams ranked 9 and up - 100 total
We are holding the event at Tom Sawyer Park and with NTI, it is reasonable to expect that kids can get to the meet before 3:00 with plenty of time to warm up, while also concluding the meet while it is still light out. I will arrange the timing with David Flaugher and he will figure out how each of the waves will go off. I will be the Official and Starter for the meet with Andy Ames (Male) assisting. We still plan to do tshirts and awards but those will be mailed rather than having a ceremony (we will do top 15 shirts for the runners in the early waves and top 10 shirts for those in Waves 7 and 8).
The course will be a little different due to a BMX competition on the back mile. Please see the attached map and explain the differences to your kids (pay particular attention to the circled area as this will be a new running path). All runners will need to wear masks the entire time they are present and can only take them off when given the instruction by the starter. They will need to carry the mask with them during the race and then put it back on once the race has concluded. All coaches are expected to go through the COVID protocols with every runner prior to arrival at the park.
All spectators and coaches will need to wear masks 100% of the time and will have their temperatures taken and asked COVID questions upon arrival. We are also only allowed one spectator per runner. Please encourage your supporters to maintain social distancing in addition to masking requirements and tell anyone feeling sick to please stay home.
We are going to be asking for donations as spectators arrive but are happy to announce that JCPS Athletics is helping fund the event to help defray costs for park rental and timing.
