LOUISVILLE, Ky. – University of Louisville track and field’s Margret Harris and Michelle Theophille swept the women’s side of the BIG EAST track and field’s weekly awards, the conference office announced Tuesday morning.

At the team’s first meet of the year on Dec. 7 at the Hoosier Open, Harris, the BIG EAST Women’s Track Athlete of the Week, raced to a win in the 60m finals behind a collegiate-best 60m mark of 7.38. Her time is currently the third fastest at the Division I level. Harris advanced to the finals after placing second in the preliminaries. The Lancaster, Texas, native also had a solid opener in the long jump, taking second with a leap of 5.60m/18-4.50.

Theophille, the BIG EAST Women’s Field Athlete of the Week, broke the school record in the high jump at the Hoosier Open. An indoor senior, she cleared her first three attempted heights, jumped over the bar at 1.83m/6-0 in her final attempt and then set the school record of 1.85m/6-0.75 on her first try. The original school record was 1.82m/5-11.50, set by Rachel Gehret in 2009 and tied by Theophille last year. The mark ranked first nationally at the time and is currently second best at the Division I level.

Louisville returns to action for the two-day Kentucky Invitational on Jan. 11-12 at Nutter Fieldhouse in Lexington, Ky.
