The announcement of UK's New Track Coach today Edrick Floreal caused a stir throughout the track community on various websites across the country. The biggest news as far as Kentucky high school goes is the fact that his son EJ Floreal should be coming to Kentucky as well. The senior-to-be is a 6'4 basketball player who averaged 14 points a game last year, who ran track as a side sport this past spring. Side note or not, he has reported best of 10.52 and 21.16 according to a newspaper article in California. MileSplit California shows him with best of 10.61 and 21.24. He finished fourth in the 100m Dash and third in the 200m Dash in California. His father was a two-time Olympian in the Triple Jump for Canada and his mother was a two-time Olympian in the hurdles for the United States.
Looks like KYtrackXC.com Sprinter of the Year James Quick will have some extra competition next spring. The big question where does he end up next year? Class AAA State Champions Bryan Station would be the strongest team to join next year in Lexington. If basketball is the lead sport, that opens up powerhouse Scott County or Lexington Catholic as potential landing spots. Time will tell.....
(Update, I am unofficially hearing Lexington Catholic as the likely target.)
