St. Henry, Pulaski County, Woodford County, Christian County, North Hardin and DeSales will host invitationals this weekend while St. Patrick will host the KTCCCA Area 7 Championships at Mason County.
Woodford County will host over 1000 athletes from 35 schools at the Woodford County Park. Scott High, Paul Dunbar, Oldham County should go head to head in the boys and girls races. #1 Kortni Dukes of Scott, #2 Laura Steinmetz of Dunbar and #4 Kim Grieshaber of Woodford County should have quite a battle in the girls. Matt Smith of Oldham County is the favorite in the boys race. Nathan Liversedge of West Jessamine should also be a contender.
15 teams will compete at the DeSales Invitational at McNeely Lake. Trinity is the favorite in the girls and John Hardin in the girls race. Maggie Mattingly of John Hardin and Kenny Minogue of Trinity are the individual favorites.
Fifteen teams will compete in the Pulaski County Invitational at GE Field. Pat Jenkins of Pulaski County is the favorite in the boys.
280 runners representing 18 schools will compete this weekend in the Area 7 Cross Country Championship. The Area 7 Cross Country Championship race will decide the All Area 7 Cross Country team, the "Runner of the Year" , and the coach of the year. All classifications will be separated in a girls and boys division and races will be conducted for grades 6th and under, 8th and under, as well as a varsity division. St. Patrick is the host school with the Mason County course being the race site. The boys varsity will see top contenders Bo Thompson (Boyd County), Micheal Lutz (Ashland), Tyler McClain (East Carter), and Mathew Daniel (Rowan Co.) try to stop Ron Duncan (Fleming Co.) from claiming his 5th consecutive Area 7 Runner of the Year title. Duncan is currently ranked #1 in boys AA cross country. Rowan County currently ranked #4 in boys AA will be the favorite to claim the boys varsity crown. The girls varsity race will be a show of high quality young runners. Fairview's girls should be he favorites while a trio of Freshman highlight the race lead by Amy Adams (Ashland) who will be tested by Tenny Ostrem (Powell Co) and Rachel White (Mason Co). White and Ostrem squared off last Saturday in the Boyd Co Invitational with Ostrem finishing 6th eight seconds ahead of White who finished 7th.
