Over 750 athletes from 33 schools will compete in the 22nd Annual Capitol View Classic at the State Library & Archives. # 1 ranked St. Xavier will not run their first team but still rank as the favorites in the boys race. Class AA #5 North Oldham, # 7 West Jessamine, and Class A #10 Danville should contend for the runner-up spots. Nathan Liversedge of West Jessamine ranked #2 in AA is the favorite with Brian Stevenson and Corbin Skelton of North Oldham challenging.
In the girls race Class AA #6 North Oldham is the favorite. Danville 6th grader Kaitlen Snapp ranked #1 in Class A after a spectacular 3rd place finish at the Franklin County Invitational is the favorite. Owen County's Danielle Hoop has been rapidly improving and moving up in the rankings during the season. Meredith LaMaster (# 5 AA) of North Oldham could challenge Snapp.
800 athletes from 35 schools will compete at the Berea Invitational. Paul Dunbar is the favorite in the girls while Dunbar and South Oldham headline the boys. Daniel Murner of South Oldham and Antonio Marchi of Henry Clay are top contenders for the boys while the Dunbar duo of Laura Steinmetz and Colleen Davis will have Kristen Miller of South Oldham to contend with. Look for rapidly improving Bell County girls coming off a fifth place finish at Franklin County to contend as well.
Over 800 athletes from 25 schools from Tennessee, Kentucky, Illinois, and Missouri headline the Marshall County Invitational. Daviess County and Graves County girls will contend with Marquette (#6 in Missouri). Defending AAA state champ Daviess County boys will compete with defending AA champs Paducah Tilghman. Woodford County's Kim Grieshaber comes off a big win at the Franklin County Invitational last week at the Horse Park. Pat Jenkins of Pulaski County and Jared Wynne of Paducah Tilghman should be a top contenders in the boys race.
Nineteen schools will compete in the Williamstown Invitational. Campbell County and Boone County boys and Grant County girls are the favorites. Drew Harris of Campbell County is the favorite in the boys race.
Michael Eaton and Keela Osborne of Greenwood are the favorites along with Greenwood's teams in the SKY Conference meet in Bowling Green.
Ashland and Clay County will also host invitationals this weekend.
