Interview with Katherine Alcorn

1) What are your goals for the 2005 Cross Country Season?

As a team, our girls are working hard towards a hopeful regional championship. I\'ve always wanted to accomplish this as a team, and this year I think we have a GREAT chance.

As for individual goals, a major goal for this season would be to win a state championship. Besides that, I really would like to break 18:25 (my P.R.) in the 5k, as well as place in the top 8 at Footlocker Regionals. Although last season was not my best, another goal is to stay focused on this year and to put the past behind me.

2) Are there any races in particular you are looking foward to this season?

One in particular would be the St. X Tiger run. This will be our teams first official meet of the season, and I am looking forward to seeing what kind of condition every one is in after the summer.

3) You are the pre-season #1 runner in girls AAA, how do you feel about starting at the top?

It feels good knowing I can start the season on top, but it\'s going to be hard to stay there. There is so much pressure knowing how many great runners in the state are working hard to be #1. Although I know where I am positioned in the pre-season rankings, I would feel better about being #1 by the end of the year!

4) Since you and Kortni Dukes are in the same region and grade, you have raced her many times in cross country and track. What do you think about her as a runner?

Kortni not only has a great personality, but also is a very talented runner. She seems to be getting better every year. This year should be tough knowing that we are both seniors, and we are both working hard towards the same goal. I wish her the best of luck this season!

5) What do you think about Conners girls chances this season?

I am very excited about our girls team this season. Although it only consists of six girls, they are all very talented. Our key runners are Kayla Crusham, Nicole Porembski (who both qualified for the state track meet), Jami Kleonne, Chelsea Schmitt, and Lydia Kidder. Everyone is working very hard this year, and I think we have a great chance of bringing home a regional championship trophy.

6) What has been your biggest accomplish as a runner?

Definately winning a state championship. It was a dream come true! Other than that, having the girls team that we have now I think is a great accomplishment considering the history of our team. All of the girls are amazing and I wouldn\'t trade them for anyone!

7) Are there any colleges in particular you are looking at for next year?

Right now, my options are open. Colleges I have been looking at are Louisville, UK, University of Florida, UAB, and University of South Florida. Academics will be a major factor when choosing what college I will attend, but for now, there is no particular college I am looking at.

8) Have you completely healed from your leg injury during track?

Everything with my leg seems to be back to normal, which I am very excited about. I took the use of my legs for granted before I got hurt. When I couldnt run, I realized this. Now that I am better, I am taking full advantage of what I can do!
