KYtrackXC.com Athletes of the Week: January 25th

 

Track season is back and the first big meet of the year was on Saturday in Lexington.  Below you will find Week 2 of the KYtrackXC.com Athletes of the Week.  There were no middle schools meets this week, so there are only High School and College Awards.  Any former Kentucky high school track athlete is eligible for the weekly college award regardless of whether or not the school is located in Kentucky.

 

 

High School Girls Athletes of the Week

 

duPont Manual 4x800 Meter Relay Team

 

The distance ladies from Manual had quite a showing on Saturday in all the distance events but they saved the best for last by winning the 4x800 Relay at the Wildcat Classic on Saturday.  Kristen Hale, Cassidy Hale, Marissa Hale, and Christina Rucinski combined together to run a new meet record time of 10:18.26. 

 

High School Boys Athletes of the Week

 

Butler 4x800 Meter Relay Team

 

The defending Class AAA champs in this event only returned one leg from last year with sophomore Tretez Kinnaird.  Must not have been that big of deal as the new foursome of Kinnaird, Patrick Gregory, Allen Matthews, and Shawn Thomas set won the 4x800 at the Wildcat Classic setting a new meet record of 8:20.71 in the process.  The previous record holders were that 2010 squad that won state setting a new Overall Kentucky Record time of 7:54.07.

 

College Female Athlete of the Week

 

Kim GrieshaberUniversity of Louisville/Woodford County

 

Grieshaber, a 2006 graduate of Woodford County High School in Versailles won the 3000 Meter Run at the Gladstein Invitational hosted by Indiana University on Friday.  This personal best time ranks her #6 in the Big East Conference. 

 

College Male Athlete of the Week

 

Brian LongVillanova University/St. Xavier

 

Long, a 2007 graduate of St. Xavier High School in Louisville won the 3000 Meter Run at the Great Dane Classic in New York last Friday with a big time personal best of 8:06.59.  His time ranks him #1 in the Big East Conference and #6 in NCAA Division I.
