Megan Klein, a senior at Paul Dunbar High School in Lexington has committed to the University of Louisville to run in college.  This announcement comes on the heels of her missing her senior cross country season with a stress reaction in her navicular bone on her left foot.  She was named to the All-KYtrackXC.com Cross Country Team her junior year in 2009.  Last spring at the 2010 Kentucky State Track Meet she passed up individual success for the good of the team running the distance trifecta finishing 3rd in the 1600m (5:07), 4th in the 800m (2:19), and 7th in the 3200m (11:51.)

This week KYtrackXC.com asked Megan about her commitment to the University of Louisville and she said, “U of L has everything I need. A great nursing program, great coaches who are very knowledgeable about the steeple, great team who I get along with, awesome facilities. It is the place that I feel I will be happiest at and have the most success in every area.”

Last spring, she found a new event that was a game changer for her.  She competed twice in the 2000 Meter Steeplechase during the regular season running a 7:13.67 at the Eastern Relays earning national rankings in the process.  She then went on to finish 13th in the 2K Steeple at New Balance Nationals last June.  When asked about the appeal of the steeplechase, Klein said, “It is a challenge, something different to train for and work at.  I like that it combines hurdling technique with the endurance required to run a 2K or 3K.”

Klein chose Louisville over DePaul University, Lipscomb University, and Clemson University.
