Individual Title Contenders: Jenna Rogers, CAL; Caterina Karas, Collins HS
Rogers and Karas have waged plenty of battles over the past year, but many of them were of no real relevance since they resided in different classifications. After the new Martha Layne Collins High School opened in Shelby County, though, Karas dropped down in classification and a very real rivalry has taken form. On the track, Karas has been the superior athlete with faster PRs at each major distance, but cross-country has proved to be a different animal entirely. In two early season match-ups on Shelby County’s course, Karas proved to be the same runner we had seen over the past year, beating Rogers by 9 seconds over 3k and 23 seconds over 5k. On the flat and fast layout at Tom Sawyer, though, Karas has been the one chasing, as Rogers has posted advantages of 13 seconds (Trinity) and 10 seconds (GLC) in their two match-ups there.
