Cooper senior Paul Van Laningham has committed to the University of Wisconsin.
Van Laningham won his first state championship last fall at the 2024 KHSAA Class 3A Cross Country State Meet with the best time of the day of 15:19.87. He then went on to qualify for Nike Cross Nationals with a 6th place finish at NXN SE with a 14:56.20.
Last winter during indoor he won the 2025 KHSAA Class 3A 1600m Indoor State title with a 4:13.04 which he then followed up with a 2025 KHSAA Class 3A Outdoor State title in the same event with a 4:08.25.
This past summer he was the national runner-up in the 3000m Run with an 8:04.89 at Nike Outdoor Nationals. He ran a new PR of 4:06.48 in the Mile at Nike Outdoor as well.
He opened his senior XC season with a 15:09 to win the Moeller Primetime Invitational in Ohio.
The University of Wisconsin finished 4th at the 2024 NCAA D1 Men's XC Championship.
