With the State Meet just 7 weeks away, it is time to highlight some of the athletes who can challenge for the State Championship. In this week's edition, we will focus on the Class 2A sprinters. Regardless of the current season best, this article highlights returners who will challenge for it all.
100/200m
Beau Brown wins the 200m at the 2022 KHSAA State Championship
The first athlete to highlight this list is the defending 100m Runner-Up and 200m State Champion from last year's KHSAA Class 2A Track and Field State Championship, Beau Brown. Following this, the Senior from Mercer County tore up the indoor track winning both the 60m and 200m races at the KTCCCA AA/AAA Indoor State Championships. He is also undefeated in the outdoor season over all distances and has the fastest 100m and 200m times in 2A this year.
The second athlete who can challenge for the State 100m and 200m title is Curtez Hill of Holmes. The Senior finished in 8th in the 100m and 7th in the 200m at the KHSAA Class 2A Track and Field State Championship two years ago, yet did not run in the postseason last year. He currently holds the third fastest 100m time and the third fastest 200m time in Class 2A this outdoor season. As a Senior, he should be hungry to win his first State Championship and could present a major challenge to Brown.
The third athlete who could challenge for the 100m and 200m state titles this year is Warren Central's Deanglo Patterson. The Senior finished 13th and 5th respectively in the 100m and 200m and last year's State Championships. However, he had a very strong Indoor season showcasing his speed in both a 2nd place finish in the 60m and a 3rd place finish in the 200m. Couple this with an unblemished 200m record this season and Patterson could prove to be a valiant competitor to Brown this season.

110m Hurdles
Aiden Nevels finishes 2nd in the 110m Hurdles at the 2022 KHSAA State Championship
Kicking off this list is the fastest returner from the last season's Class 2A State Championships over the 110m Hurdles. Aiden Nevels of Highlands continues to dominate the 110m hurdles. He finished 2nd at the State Championships in the 110m hurdles last year and is primed for a big season. He is undefeated this year over the 110m hurdles and as the fastest returner, should once again contend for the State Championship at this year's KHSAA Class 2A Track and Field State Championship.
Second on this list is Tate Weatherley of Calloway County. The Junior finished 10th in the 110m hurdles at last year's Outdoor State Championship. However, in the Indoor season, Weatherley won his first ever State title in the 60m hurdles. Currently, the Senior has the 3rd fastest 110m hurdle time in 2A this year, but is undefeated on the season landing him in second on this list.
Finally, third on our list is Thaddeus Mays of Mercer County. The senior finished 4th in the event at last year's State Championship and is ready to break out and claim his first title this year. He currently has the second fastest 110m hurdle time in the State this year and will contend for the 110m championship this season.
