Apollo senior Thomas Ashby won the Steepleville 2K Steeplechase race tonight in Louisville with a US #1 time of 6:01.42. The future University of Cincinnati runner ran negatives splits throughout the race coming through the mile in 4:51 and closing in a last lap of 69 seconds. His time takes over the top spot in the nation beating the previous time of 6:02.40. Matthew Whitlock of Oldham County was second with a 6:34.09.
Oldham County junior Tula Fawbush won the ladies race with a US #2 time of 7:00.12. She just missed the nation's top time of 6:59.93 in her victory at Eastern High School. She opened fast with back to back 82 second laps, coming through the mile at 5:37 and closing in 83 to win by 22 seconds. Bethany Simpson ky of Bourbon County came in second with a 7:22.55.
