State Meet Rewind: Class A

State Meet Throwback: Class A

Jacob Thomson Proves Once Again He's One of the GOAT's

At the 2013 State Class A Championships, Thomson was expected to win everything he stepped to the line for, the only question was whether or not he could take down Bobby Curtis' 1600m State Meet record of 4:13.16. He had already gone 4:10 earlier that year in the Dream Mile and on 2 occasions the year before in the 1600m, so the record was well within sight. Sure enough, Thomson lived up to that hype to go sub 4:10 for the first time in his promising career by the slimmest of margins, crossing in 4:09.99...but he wasn't done!

After a quick cool down it was time to set his sights on the 3200m scheduled as the second to last event of the day with another State Meet record in the cross hairs, gunning for a 9:12.19 mark set by yet again the great Bobby Curtis. Earlier in 2013, Thomson blasted an 8:48.73 out west at the Arcadia Invite, so it seemed like a no brainer that he would be taking over the meet record on that day. As the laps clicked away, Thomson prevailed, going 9:07.17 in a storybook ending to his years of state high school competition in what he later describes in his interview with Jonathan Grooms as "just another day in the office".
