Participation in the KTCCCA Middle School State Meet continues to rise, from about 450 in 1997 to a bit over 900 last year even with the addition of Elementary races in 2003 which siphoned off some athletes. The numbers of full (5 runners) teams competing has not risen since 1999, which means MS's are not adding CC to their sports lists or any additions are very small teams, less than 5. However, the existing teams must be to be getting larger or there are more schools with small numbers of runners.
Times are getting faster, winning team's average about 1 minute per runner faster than in 2001 when they switched to 4k and 10th place teams are also about 1 minute faster. The result is that the 10th place times last year were about good enough to win in 2001. While it's true that the course has moved from

Burns has placed in the top 10 on the boy's side every year except the first year while College View has placed in the top 10 for girls all but 2006 and 2007. Warren East, College View, Daviess and Burns have all won both girl's and boy's titles with the Burns boys holding the prize for most wins in a row at 3.
The lowest boys score ever was 1997 Warren East with 40 points although there were only 30 teams in the meet. Last year's score of 57 by College View deserves consideration since there were 41 teams in that race. On the girl's side EOMS beat 37 other teams with a score of 50 in 2007, which is also the widest margin of victory for any race at 116 points. The closest result was Western Hills win by 5 points in the 1997 Girl's race over College View.
