Edwards, House, Scharold all Qualify for Finals at World Youth Trials

 Ypsilanti, MichiganJune 30, 2009 Two Kentucky All-Stars advanced to tomorrow’s final events in the World Youth Trials hosted by Eastern Michigan University.

Courtney Edwards (Ft. Knox High School) qualified in both the 110 Meter Hurdles and 400 Meter Hurdles.  Edwards ran a wind-aided 14.32 in the short hurdles after finishing third in his heat.  Later in the afternoon, he ran 55.97 in the longer race finishing third in his heat and automatically qualifying for the final.  Jeff Huntley (Ryle High School) also ran in the 110 Hurdle preliminary but failed to advance.

Owensboro Apollo’s Justin House opted to pass on the 800 Meter Run and focus on tomorrow’s 1500 Meter Run.  The 1500 will be run as a final only.  House will face twelve other competitors in tomorrow afternoon’s final competition.

One other Kentucky athlete did qualify for the final of the 800.  Campbell County’s Robbie Scharold qualified for the 800 meter final running 1:58.03 while competing for the Northern Kentucky Track Club. 

The high jump will start tomorrow morning with Johnson Central’s Megan Daniel competing against a field of sixteen competitors.  The boy’s event will feature Ben Bessler (St. Henry), Jordan Sloan (Anderson County), and Tony Greene (Menifee County) against eight other competitors.

Team USA will be announced at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday night.
