The 2009 Kentucky Outdoor Season was tremendous with a very high quality ending at the Kentucky State Track Meet. The overall individual talent and team depth in Kentucky has grown since the inception of the KYtrackXC.com Outdoor Awards. As with the past, there are three categories: Sprinter of the Year, Distance Runner of the Year, and Field Event Athlete of the Year. These are regardless of class.
KYtrackXC.com is very pleased to present to Bryan Station’s Nealy Williams the 2009 Sprinter of the Year Award.She established herself as the top hurdler in Kentucky this season.She finished with the top time statewide in both the 100m Hurdles and 300m Hurdles, and her time in the 300m Hurdles hit the MileSplit US First Team National Elite Standard.She won both events at the Class AAA Kentucky Track Meet.
KYtrackXC.com is very pleased to present to Sacred Heart’s Emma Brink the 2009 Distance Runner of the Year Award.Brink was also the recipient of the Indoor Distance Runner of the Year Award when she ran best time of 4:55.12 in the One Mile Run at Nike Indoor Nationals to finish as an All-American.She capped off her Kentucky Outdoor season with the Distance Trifecta at the Class AAA Kentucky State Track Meet.She won the 1600m in 5:05.95, the 3200m in 11:13.45, and set a new Overall Kentucky State Record in the 800m with a 2:13.88.Still only a sophomore, she has already won six Kentucky State Championships (2 XC, 4 Track.)
KYtrackXC.com is very pleased to present to Henry Clay’s Leigh Allin the 2009 Field Event Athlete of the Year Award.She hit 11-10 in the Pole Vault twice this season including her win at the Fayette County Championship.She dominated the competition in Kentucky this year winning the Class AAA State Track Meet by over two feet.Her performance of 11-08 broke the previous record of 11-07.Allin continues the trend of elite female Kentucky Pole Vaulters over the last few years and will continue her college career at VirginiaTechUniversity.
KYtrackXC.com is very pleased to present to Johnson Central’s Andy Lewis with the 2009 Outdoor Sprinter of the Year Award.He capped off his senior year with a victory in the 100m and 200m Dashes at the Class AA Kentucky State Track Meet.Coming into the season he had posted sub 11 seconds 100m Dash times, and he continued this trend with a best of 10.94.But in the 200m Dash he went to a whole new level running a KentuckyState best 21.78 at the State Meet.Lewis will continue his career at MoreheadStateUniversity next year.
KYtrackXC.com is very pleased to present this award to ButlerHigh School 3200m Relay team.They ran a 7:53.98 (historical evidence) in that event at the Kentucky State Meet.Now when you look at the results you won’t find it but it happened, believe me, it did and it was AWESOME!!!!Disqualification or not this group was the best 3200m Relay team in Kentucky all season long, including having the leading time entering post-season action.Congratulations to Darius Berry, Michael Caldwell,Kyle Clark, and Tretez Kinnaird for combining together for an everlasting performance.
KYtrackXC.com is very pleased to present the 2009 Outdoor Field Event Award to Cameron Frazier, already the Indoor Field Event Athlete of the Year.He finished his career by adding two more Kentucky State Championships in the Shot Put and Discus.He had the top performance in both events for the entire state of Kentucky.Frazier will continue his career at WesternKentuckyUniversity next year.
