Athlete Interviews Leading up to LIVE 2018 Eastern Relays

You've had a pretty exciting senior year so far. Tell us about some of the biggest highlights to you personally?

I have had many highlights in my four years on this team , but I would have to say that I have a few favorites. I remember when we went to Centerville, my sophomore year, and there were some really crazy events that my teammates had never run , such as the 4x300 hurdles , steeplechase, etc. Although my teammates had never run such diverse events, we still pulled it together and won. I also would say , my junior year, when I broke 12 seconds in my 100m dash at OCC's. This time break opened so many doors for me. I would also have to say that all 4 of our indoor state titles have been highlights in themselves . These are just a few of many that stick out to me through my years at GLHS.

Everyone in this part of the country has experienced a pretty nasty spring so far. How has it impacted your training and racing? Any cancelled meets or particularly memorable workouts?

Through many cancelled meets, high winds, chills, rain, etc. , I have still managed to stay injure free. The headwinds at many track meets slowed times down , but those meets turned into what Coach Whitt calls "training meets". Honestly, everything happens for a reason.

Amariah placed 6th with a PR in the 60m indoor at the SPIRE Scholastic Showcase in February of 2018.

Tell us what races you'll be running at Eastern Relays? Do you have any specific goals that you'd like to share?

At Eastern Relays I will be running the 100m Dash, 200m Dash, and 400m Dash.

Tell us what you love the most about the Eastern Relays!

Eastern Relays is so enjoyable for the simple fact that everyone has talent and runs hard and it's a great environment to PR and to have fun while doing it. It is also a very well run meet, so there are no long pauses or even fast pace agendas . I love it , all around.
