KYtrackXC.com Athletes of the Week

In an effort to honor the top track and field performers from Kentucky, KYtrackXC.com will have a weekly set of Athletes of the Week.  There will be Middle School, High School, and College awardees.  Former Kentucky High School Track and Field athletes currently running in college are eligible for the College award, even if he or she attends a school out-of-state. 

 

High School

Girls 

Catherine Claywell - Murray

Claywell, a freshmen at Murray High School won the High Jump at the Marshall County All-Comers with a personal best leap of 5-07.  This marked placed her #1 in Kentucky and #10 in the nation on Tuesday.  She is the two-time defending Kentucky State Class A High Jump Champion.

Boys

Brandon Nichols - Henry Clay

Mentioning the times 22.39/50.03 for the 200m and 400m Dash do not necessary shout this guy is awesome, good but not awesome.  But, if you add in the fact that Brandon Nichols is only a FRESHMEN then one should be really impressed.  His times ran at the Western Hills Open currently rank him as the second fastest Freshmen in the 400m and sixth in the 200m in the United States.

Jeremy Rice - North Oldham

Rice, a sophomore at North Oldham High School set career best in the 800m and 1600m Runs this past week at the Oldham County All-Comers.  His time of 2:02.62 is currently ranked #1 in Class AA and his time of 4:38.25 is a career best by 17 seconds.   

 

Middle School

Girls

Alisha Adair - Bondurant Middle School

Adair, an eighth grader at Bondurant Middle School won three events at the Western Hills MS All-Comers on Thursday.  She won the 100m Dash in 13.35, 200m Dash in 27.34, and 400m Dash in 1:04.74. 

 

Boys

Thomas Cave - St. Nicholas Academy

Cave, an eighth grader at St. Nicholas Academy in Louisville won three events this week at the JCPS League Meet I.  He won the 400m Dash in 1:01.77, 800m Run in 2:27.36, and 1600m Run in 5:15.34.  His times in the 400m and 1600m were career best.

 

College

 

Women

Morgan Thacker - Eastern Kentucky University

Thacker, a 2008 graduate of Rockcastle County High School finished 24th in the Triple Jump with a leap of 35-00.50.  She also placed 20th with a jump of 16-10.25

Men

 

Chrys Jones - Centre College

Jones, a 2007 graduate of Mercer County High School won the Triple Jump at the Hanover College Invitational with a leap of 50-09.  This is his best jump since returning from an injury that forced him to miss his freshmen outdoor season.
