KYtrackXC.com March 9th Athletes of the Week

In an effort to honor the top track and field performers from Kentucky, KYtrackXC.com will have a weekly set of Athletes of the Week.  There will be Middle School, High School, and College awardees.  Former Kentucky High School Track and Field athletes currently running in college are eligible for the College award, even if he or she attends a school out-of-state. 

This week, KYtrackXC.com honors Athletes of the Week for each High School Class since the competition Saturday at the Mason-Dixon Games was broken up into classes.

High School Girls

Class A Girls

Emily Cooper -Bishop Brossart

Samantha O'Leary - Bishop Brossart

Shannon O'Leary - Bishop Brossart

Katie Neiser -Bishop Brossart

These four ladies from Bishop Brossart won the Class A Girls 4x200m Relay and 4x400m Relay titles Saturday at the Mason-Dixon Games.  They ran a 1:53.13 to win the 4x200m Relay and a 4:20.26 to win the 4x400m Relay.

DeShaela Rivers - Central

Sasha Richmond - Central

Nathelie Zetrenne - Central

The Central High School Girls 4x400m Relay team broke the Class AA Mason-Dixon Games record Saturday with a time of 4:22.61. 

Tenny Ostrem

Powell County

Ostrem, a senior at Powell County won the 1500m and 3000m titles Saturday at the Mason-Dixon Games.  Her winning times were 5:08.35 and 11:07.05 which is the #1 time for the 2009 Kentucky Indoor Season.

 

Class AAA Girls

Louisville Ballard

Jeter, a senior at Ballard High School won the 400m Dash in 1:00.99 and the Long Jump with a leap of 16-06.75

Class A Boys

Trevin Peterson

Walton Verona

Peterson, a sophomore at Walton-Verona won the 1500m Run Saturday at the Mason-Dixon Games Class A Meet.  His winning time was 4:27.57, what makes the feat most impressive is that he ran in the slower of the two heats for the 1500m.

 

Class AA Boys

Stephon Robinson

Central

Robinson, a senior at Central High School in Louisville won the 55m Dash in 6.66 and was part of the winning 4x200m and 4x400m Relay teams. 

 

Class AAA Boys

Joe Mallek

Oldham County

Mallek, a senior at Oldham County High School broke the Class AAA Meet record at the Mason-Dixon Games.  He ran a 1:58.32 breaking the record held by former Male All-American James Doaty.

 

Marcellus Hobbs

North Hardin

Hobbs, a senior at North Hardin High School helped his team score 33 points Saturday at the Mason-Dixon Games.  He won the 400m Dash in 51.09 and was part of the winning 4x400m Relay team.  He also finished second in the 55m Dash in 6.62 and ran the lead leg of the 4x800m Relay.

Middle School Girls

Tia Weston

Lassiter Middle School

Weston, an eighth grader at Lassiter Middle in Louisville pulled the distance double at the Mason-Dixon Games Middle School Meet.  She won the 800m in 2:40.27 and the 1500m in 5:16.74.  Both are currently #1 for the 2009 MS Indoor Season.

Tretez Kinnaird

Johnson Middle School

Kinniard, an eighth grader at Johnson Tradition in Louisville won the 400m Dash and 1500m Run Friday night at the Mason-Dixon Games.  His winning times of 55.04 and 4:32.66 broke the previous Mason-Dixon Games Middle School Records. 

 

College Women

Katherine Alcorn

University of Louisville

This Conner graduate ran a career best time of 2:10.22 at the Alex Wilson Invitational Saturday at the University of Notre Dame. 

 

College Men

Evan Crowdus

Lindsey Wilson College

This 2008 Union County graduate finished 5th at the NAIA Indoor National Championships in the 3000m Racewalk with a time of 13:28.10.
