HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky.- Northern Kentucky University track and field athlete DeMondrea Starnes was named Horizon League Women's Field Athlete of the Week the organization announced on Tuesday.
Competing at the Oliver Nikoloff Invitational hosted by Cincinnati last weekend, Starnes placed third in the long jump and first in the triple jump. The weekly accolade is the first earned by any track and field athlete since joining the Horizon League.
In the long jump, Starnes recorded a mark of 5.78m (18'11.75") setting a new program record as well as moving to the top of the League's performance list. The junior's first place performance of 12.02m (39'5.25") in the triple jump currently sits at the No. 2 spot in the League's performance standings.
The Norse return to action April 8-9 at the Western Kentucky Hilltopper Relays.
