FORT WORTH -- Ronnie Baker was named the Big 12 Athlete of the Week, the conference announced Wednesday afternoon.
In the outdoor season opener, Baker logged a 9.95 wind-assisted time in the 100-meter dash, taking first place. Baker's time is currently No. 1 on the NCAA Division I Outdoor Qualifying List and is the fastest any-condition time in the world so far this year.
Baker finished 0.34 seconds ahead of Texas' Senoj-Jay Givans, who finished second in the race. Baker earned this time after recording a 6.47 finish at the NCAA Indoor Championships to take home his second national title. Baker's effort to close out his final indoor season at TCU was the third-fastest mark in NCAA history.
Baker and the Horned Frogs will return to the track on Saturday, March 26 for the UTSA Invitational in San Antonio, Texas.
