INDIANAPOLIS - Thomas Morgan has been named USATF's Athlete of the Week after winning the senior men's 8-kilometer race Saturday at the fourth annual North America, Central America and Caribbean Athletic Association (NACAC) Cross Country Championships at Disney's Wide World of Sports Complex at the Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando, Florida.
With a kilometer to go in the race, Morgan took the lead from Canada's Rob Watson, who was the early leader. Morgan, a resident of Blowing Rock, N.C., powered to the finish line in winning the race in 22 minutes 42 seconds, which shattered the previous course record of 23:10. Morgan's performance led Team USA to the men's team win by a 14 to 22 margin over Canada.
