Former John Hardin Runner Katie Lever Named XC Scholar Athlete of the Year for Conference USA

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. WKU’s Katie Lever has been named the Conference USA Women’s Cross Country Scholar Athlete of the Year, league commissioner Britton Banowsky announced Thursday afternoon.

The C-USA Faculty Athletic Representatives from each institution determined each conference sport’s award winner, who were recognized for their academic achievement, athletic accomplishments and service.

Lever has continually been a model student-athlete at WKU with her work in the community, her results in the classroom and in the field of competition. The rising senior was named as WKU’s C-USA Winter Spirit of Service honoree in April and also earned the 2014 WKU Outreach-Service Award for exemplifying sportsmanship and character and being actively involved in the community at the annual WKU Athletics Banquet.

The Elizabethtown, Kentucky, native is a two-time USTFCCCA All-Academic selection and was a 2014 Cross Country C-USA All-Academic honoree last fall. Lever has a perfect cumulative GPA of 4.0 through six completed semesters as a communication studies major.

In the field of competition, Lever was WKU’s top finisher in all six cross country races and finished seventh at the C-USA Championships to secure First Team All-Conference honors. Additionally, she finished third in the 5,000-meter run at the C-USA Indoor Championships to garner all-conference accolades. Lever has earned a combined seven all-conference honors spanning cross country, and indoor and outdoor track seasons since 2013.
