KY State Meet Class AA Girls/Boys Preview

Boys Storylines

Sprints are Nasty

The 100m/200m Dashes are loaded. Ashland Blazer's Quinton Baker, Cov. Cath's Jake Erpenbeck, and Western's Adrian Williams-Rolston all come in sub 10.94. The 100m should be fast no questions. Add in Highlands Alex Veneman and Holmes Devin Bradford and watch out. The 200m Dash will be just as similiar with the same cast of characters. By the time of the 200m Dash the team title will be a heavy factor on some of these athletes.

Distance Battle

State XC Champ Ethan Shuley and defending 1600m State Champ Trenton Fryman will duke it out in the 1600m and then the 3200m. Shuley will be in the 4x8 for sure, the question is whether Fryman will. He is in the 800m as well. The main showdown will be in the 1600m where both will be still close to fresh.

Team Battle

This is an interesting battle that can go a lot of different directions.

Paducah Tilghman is all on the track this year. They are heavy in the relays which is the norm along with Lenny Grace in the 110m Hurdles and 400m Dash. Marcus and Malcolm Corbett will fill in points needed in the 300m hurdles as well. They will need big points out of these key pieces.

North Oldham is distance and field event heavy for points. North Oldham has Trenton Fryman in all three distance events for potential major points. David Terkula in the 800 as well. Arien Beasley in the Long Jump and Slade Stevens in the Pole Vault all opportunity for points.

Lexington Catholic will score in the relays along with nickels and dimes in the running events. They will score big in the hurdles and field events. Andrew Stuber should gain several points in the 110m Hurdles and 300m Hurdles. Patrick Kelly should get points in all three jumps events. William Sparks and Collin Vollet will "throw" in some points in the Shot Put and Discus.

Highlands does not have the depth of the other teams but has great talent. AA XC Champ Ethan Shuley leads the 4x8 and is one of the favorites in the 1600m and 3200m Runs. Sprinter Alex Veneman is seeded #1 in the 200m and 400m Dash along with a 4x4 to watch with another sub 51 leg in Jared Pulsfort.

Covington Catholic has star sprinter Jake Erpenbeck in the 100m/200m combo along with leading the 4x1 and 4x2. They will be able to do some major damage in the field events. Andy Kuykendall in the Triple Jump, Luke Foertsch in the Discus, Michael Shulte/Chris Holthaus in the Shot Put should all combine for big points.
