The University of the Cumberlands (UC) Women’s Track and Field team would take to the road this past weekend as they rounded out their regular season at the Centre Twilight meet. Numerous Patriot ladies would earn high finishes on the evening, but two would catch the eye of the voters in the Mid-South Conference (MSC) as they earned weekly honors.
UC’s Danielle Hoop (Owenton, KY) and teammate Courtney Rhodes (Riceboro, GA) are the MSC Women’s Track and Field Athletes of the Week, conference officials announced on Tuesday. This is the 2nd weekly award for Hoop this season while Rhodes is earning her 1st.
Hoop finished 2nd in the 5,000 meter run at the Centre Twilight over the weekend. The senior was the top NAIA runner in the event that had 29 participants with a time of 17:39.06. Hoop’s time was 11 seconds faster than her time in 2014 when she set the meet record and was also a new personal record for her in the event. Hoop scored 8 points towards the team’s total with the runner-up finish and also set a NAIA Nationals ‘B’ Standard with her finishing time.
Rhodes recorded a pair of top-10 finishes during the Centre Twilight. The Patriot sophomore finished 7th in the shot put with a throw of 11.99 meters and added an 8th place finish in the hammer throw with a distance of 40.16 meters. Rhodes scored 3 points in the two events for the Patriots, who finished 11th overall in the event.
