Caroline Gosser (Presentation) Signs with Xavier

LOUISVILLE, KY—Presentation Academy senior, Caroline Gosser, held a signing ceremony at Presentation Academy on Dec. 5 for her National Letter-of-Intent to run Cross Country and Track for Xavier University.

Gosser is a two-time state champion, capturing the 2014 titles in Cross Country and the 3200- meter in Track. In both races, she ran the fastest times in Class 1A State Meet history. Her career best 5K time, 17:42, also ranks No. 1 all-time in Class 1A. Gosser was named the 2014 Louisville Area 3 Cross Country Runner of the Year and to the First Team Academic All-State.

Presentation Track and Cross Country Coach Lou Armstrong has worked with Gosser throughout her high school career. Gosser entered into the sport of running for the first time in her freshman year. Armstrong credits her successes over the past four years to discipline and passion.

“Caroline has trained religiously for the past 1200 days, running in weather ranging from 6 to 100 degrees, snow storms, and torrential rains. Even her prom date had to wait for her to finish a race the night of their dance. Fortunately, it wasn't a long wait. The result has been a stunning four year progression, improving from a 125th finish at the State Cross Country meet her freshman year to becoming a record-breaking state champion her senior year, and one of the top runners in the southeast. Caroline’s rigorous dedication is an inspiration to all aspiring runners.”

Ryan Orner is entering his third year as Xavier's Track and Cross Country Head Coach, and he has guided Xavier to its three best finishes at the NCAA Great Lakes Regional Championship. He looks forward to coaching Gosser next year.

"The entire women's team and I are very excited to have Caroline coming to Xavier University next year. From the start I saw Caroline as the complete student-athlete and one who I believed would fit in well with the girls on our team. Throughout the recruiting process Caroline's proven to be one of the more grounded recruits that I’ve ever talked to. She’s thoughtful, makes educated decisions and her passion for the sport shines through in everything that she does. Caroline is a humble competitor with a great work ethic, who's been able to make steady improvements throughout high school with a huge breakthrough her senior year. Her enormous aerobic capacity and work ethic paired with a team full of girls that will push her each day, should lend to a great college running career. We are excited to see how Caroline’s presence in our top five will improve the team and their goal of reaching the NCAA Championship."
